For most Ghanaians, every journey abroad begins long before the airport, in a waiting room in Cantonments, Ridge or Airport City. These days that room is often not the embassy at all, but a private visa centre acting for it. This page tells you where you really have to go, gives verified addresses and contacts for the missions travellers need most, lists all 70 foreign missions in Accra by region, shows which countries cover Ghana from another capital, and links every destination to our flight guide for it, with routes, live weather, time and a currency converter.
Embassies decide on visas, but many no longer accept applications themselves. Fingerprints, documents and passports go through an appointed visa centre. Book only through the official channels below.

Canada visas and biometrics
A Schengen visa covers 29 European countries for up to 90 days in any 180. Apply to the country where you will spend the most time, or the one you enter first if the stays are equal. Demand in Accra is very high, especially from June to September and before Christmas: book as early as the rules allow.

Honorary consulates
Poland, Sweden and Belgium keep honorary consulates in Accra for their own citizens. Visas for these countries are handled as shown in the table above.
Ghanaians need no visa for any ECOWAS country, nor for South Africa, Kenya or Rwanda. These missions matter mainly for their own citizens, for documents, and for non-Ghanaian residents of Accra.

Togo and Rwanda joined the Commonwealth, so their missions are high commissions. Benin's representation in Accra could not be confirmed in our October 2026 check; Ghanaians need no visa for Benin (Cotonou) in any case.

Outside ECOWAS the rules differ by country. Rwanda is visa-free for all Africans (Kigali). Kenya is visa-free for Ghanaians (Nairobi). Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Zambia, Burundi and São Tomé each have their own rules or e-visa systems; check them on our city pages for Entebbe, Dar es Salaam, Kinshasa, Lusaka, Bujumbura and São Tomé, and with each country's official immigration service.

To the embassy of the Schengen country that is the main destination, usually through its visa centre in Accra: VFS Global for France, the Netherlands, Italy, the Nordic countries and Switzerland (also for Belgium and Latvia), BLS International for Spain, and the embassy itself for Germany.
None in practice. Missions between Commonwealth countries, such as the UK, Canada, Nigeria and South Africa, are called high commissions; all others are embassies.
Not for ECOWAS member states, South Africa, Kenya or Rwanda. Countries such as Cameroon, Gabon, Angola and Egypt require a visa; others use e-visa systems.
