In a country where flight delays are almost a national sport, Ibom Air built its name on something unusual: leaving on time. The airline of Nigeria's Akwa Ibom State flies to Accra from Lagos almost every day, and since 2026 also nonstop from Uyo, the first international route ever from the state capital. Ibom Air is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government in south-eastern Nigeria and began flying in 2019. Instead of chasing size, it kept a small, modern jet fleet and a tight schedule, and earned a reputation as one of Nigeria's most reliable airlines. Its first step abroad was Lagos–Accra in October 2023. In May 2026 it opened Uyo–Accra, the first international flight from Akwa Ibom's capital, and in June 2026 added an Abuja–Accra service with one stop in Lagos.

Nigeria is one hour ahead of Ghana all year. A flight that leaves Accra at 17:15 lands in Lagos at about 19:15 Lagos time, although it is only an hour in the air.

Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, is one of Nigeria's cleaner and calmer cities, with wide roads and a growing middle class built on oil money from the Niger Delta coast. Akwa Ibom is famous across Nigeria for its cooking (afang soup and edikang ikong are national favourites) and for its long Atlantic beaches. Calabar, the old trading city of neighbouring Cross River State, with its slave history museum and its December carnival, is a short drive away.
