Four times a week an EgyptAir widebody arrives in Accra at lunchtime and flies back to Cairo the same afternoon. It is the only direct link between Ghana and North Africa's largest country, and through Cairo it reaches the Gulf, Saudi Arabia, Europe and Asia. Egypt itself has a new reason to go: the Grand Egyptian Museum, finally open beside the pyramids of Giza. EgyptAir began in 1932 as Misr Airwork, which makes it the oldest airline in Africa and one of the oldest in the world. It has flown under several names, through wars and revolutions, and today it is the state-owned flag carrier of Egypt and a member of Star Alliance. Its hub, Cairo International Airport, sits between Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and EgyptAir uses that position to connect West Africa with the Gulf and beyond.

EgyptAir flies between Cairo and Accra four times a week. The aircraft comes in from Cairo in the morning and goes straight back at lunchtime. Accra is on GMT. Cairo is two hours ahead in winter and three hours ahead in summer, because Egypt uses summer time.

These times come from published schedules for June to October 2026. Arrival times in Cairo move by an hour when Egypt changes its clocks at the end of October and in spring. In the July 2026 flight logs, the Accra departure was frequently 20 to 50 minutes late, and on some days much more. Leave a generous connection time in Cairo. Always check your date on egyptair.com.

Egypt needs little introduction: the pyramids, the Nile, the temples of Luxor. What is new is the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza, built over two decades and now open. It is the largest museum in the world devoted to a single civilisation, and the whole Tutankhamun collection is shown together for the first time. For Ghanaians there is another connection: Nkrumah's wife Fathia was Egyptian, and Nasser's Cairo was a centre of the African liberation movements.
