The road from Accra to Wa takes around eighteen hours. Passion Air flies it in about an hour and a half. Since its first flight in 2018, this Ghanaian airline has built the widest domestic network in the country, with 78-seat turboprops reaching Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi, Wa and Sunyani. Passion Air began as DAC International Airlines (Ghana), founded by the Ghanaian businessman Edward Annan together with DAC Aviation of Kenya. It received its operating certificate in December 2017 and flew its first commercial service, Accra–Kumasi, in August 2018. Its arrival pushed domestic fares down and passenger numbers up. In February 2021 it flew Ghana's first all-female crew from Accra to Tamale, and by 2023 it held about half of Ghana's domestic market.

Kumasi is the seat of the Asantehene and the heart of the old Asante kingdom: Manhyia Palace, the Kejetia market, the fort the British built in 1897 after the war, and the kente villages of Bonwire and Adanwomase outside town. The airport is now called Prempeh I International Airport and has a new terminal. By road, the drive from Accra takes five hours or more on one of Ghana's most dangerous highways; Passion Air does it in under an hour.

Tamale is the gateway to the savannah North: Mole National Park, the mud mosque at Larabanga, and the Upper East with Paga and Navrongo. Wa, capital of the Upper West, has the Wa Naa's palace and the hippo sanctuary at Wechiau on the Black Volta; before Passion Air it was the most remote regional capital in the country. Sunyani, capital of the Bono Region, is the closest airport to the Boabeng-Fiema monkey sanctuary and the Tano sacred sites around Techiman.

Sekondi-Takoradi, the Western Region capital, is Ghana's oil city and an old harbour town. From here you reach the quiet far-west coast: the beaches of Busua and Butre, Fort Metal Cross at Dixcove, Fort St Anthony at Axim, and the stilt village of Nzulezo on its lagoon. By air it is forty minutes from Accra; by road, three to four hours along the coast.

Most visitors flying Passion Air arrive in Accra on an international flight first. Spend a day or two in the capital, then go west to Cape Coast, Elmina and Kakum, or fly north.
