Uganda Airlines Lands in Accra: Entebbe–Lagos–Accra Four Times a Week

Flight news · New route · 7 November 2026

On Tuesday, 27 October 2026, a Uganda Airlines flight touched down at Accra International Airport for the first time. It is the airline's 18th destination in the seven years since its relaunch, and one more sign that East and West Africa are finally being connected directly, rather than through Addis Ababa, Nairobi or the Gulf.

The route in brief

Uganda Airlines · Entebbe – Lagos – Accra

  • Flight number: UR900 (outbound from Entebbe).
  • Frequency: four flights a week in each direction.
  • Routing: via Lagos, Nigeria. It is not a nonstop flight, despite some early announcements.
  • Aircraft: a Boeing 737-800 wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines, meaning aircraft and crew both come from Ethiopian, while Uganda Airlines sells the seats.
  • Launch fares: promotional return fares from around US$750 were advertised at launch. Expect prices to change.
  • Inaugural flight: flagged off at Entebbe by Uganda's Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama.

Why it matters

For decades, flying from Accra to East Africa meant one thing: a connection. Ethiopian through Addis Ababa, Kenya Airways through Nairobi, RwandAir through Kigali. Each works, but each adds hours. Uganda Airlines adds one more competitor on the corridor, and more competition is the surest way to lower fares between West and East Africa.

The timing also counts. Uganda co-hosts the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027 with Kenya and Tanzania, and Ghanaian fans will need a way east. Air Tanzania arrived in Accra in January 2026 via Lagos. Now Uganda Airlines does the same, and on 18 November 2026 it adds daily flights from Entebbe to Kigali.

The honest view

  • A leased aircraft is a test. Wet-leasing lets an airline try a route without committing its own fleet. If loads are weak, routes like this can be cut. Turkish Airlines' 2026 retreat from Monrovia and several Central African cities shows how fast that can happen.
  • The Lagos stop adds time. Check whether you can book Accra–Lagos on its own. On some fifth-freedom routes you can, and it gives one more option on Africa's busiest regional route.
  • Visas first. Ghanaians travelling to Uganda should check the rules on Uganda's official e-visa portal before booking. Visitors to Ghana have needed an approved e-visa or electronic travel authorisation since 25 May 2026.
  • Yellow fever. Both countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination. Carry your card.
