Emirates Now Flies Accra–Dubai 11 Times a Week

Flight news · Gulf · 7 November 2026

Since Sunday, 1 November 2026, Emirates flies between Dubai and Accra eleven times a week, up from one flight a day. Every flight is a Boeing 777-300ER, the biggest regular passenger aircraft on any Accra route after the Gulf and European long-haulers. Here is the new timetable, why the launch took longer than announced, and what it means for travellers from Ghana.

The new timetable

Emirates Dubai ⇄ Accra, winter 2026/27

  • EK789 (Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun): Dubai about 03:30, Accra around 08:00–08:30.
  • EK790 (Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun): Accra about 11:05, Dubai about 22:40.

Why it took until November

In June 2026 Emirates announced the four extra weekly flights for 12 July. That date did not hold for the full programme. The schedule went up in stages instead: ten flights a week from 1 September and the eleventh from 1 November. This was a year of fuel-price shocks and reshuffled schedules across the Gulf, so a phased start is no surprise. But anyone who booked against the original July date and found their flight moved knows announcements are not timetables.

What it means for Ghana

  • More choice of times. The new EK790 leaves Accra late morning and reaches Dubai the same evening, which is good for connections to India, China and Australia that night.
  • Umrah and Hajj. Dubai is one of the main transfer points for Ghanaian pilgrims to Jeddah and Medina. Four more flights a week means more seats in the busy seasons.
  • Trade. Every flight carries cargo in the hold too, through Emirates SkyCargo. That matters for Ghanaian exporters and for traders bringing goods from Dubai.
  • Competition is coming. Etihad starts Abu Dhabi–Accra in March 2027, and Qatar Airways already flies Doha. The Gulf fight for West African passengers is good news for fares.

Honest tips

  • The Abidjan leg can be booked on its own. EK787/788 between Accra and Abidjan is one of the most comfortable ways to cross to Côte d'Ivoire: a wide-body for a 40-minute flight.
  • Dubai visas for Ghanaians: transit inside the airport needs no visa, but entering the UAE does. Arrange it before you fly, and stick to official channels.
  • Beware fake Dubai job offers. Many Ghanaians have been lured to the Gulf with promises of work that turned out to be very different. Check any offer with the Ghana Embassy in Abu Dhabi before you travel.
