Source: B&FT Ghana - The Ghana Airports Company Limited is to construct a new terminal building at the Kumasi Airport to ease the current congestion at the facility.

The decision to construct a new terminal is also to ready it for regional flights from Kumasi to the sub-region, following firm interests shown by regional airlines to operate flights from the Ashanti Regional capital.

This means domestic airlines which hitherto had to fuel from Sunyani, Tamale and Takoradi, can now refuel their aircrafts at the Kumasi Airport, the second major airport after the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Source: B&FT Ghana - More passengers are opting to travel by road to major capitals in the country, as air fares remain elevated due to the imposition of a 17.5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on domestic air transport in July 2015.

Latest statistics show a very significant slump in passenger throughput from an average of 55,000 passengers per month in 2014 to just under 20,000 passengers per month as at December 2015.
